EN: Poetry doesn't ask for permission, nor is it meant to soothe: it is a living territory of catharsis, voice, and attitude. I am M.ª Leonor Costa (Nonô) — writer, performer, and creator of Poesias da Nonô. I give body, sound, and presence to spoken word in Portuguese and English, inhabited by heteronyms navigating the visceral, the sacred, and the everyday. Step inside. Read with your body, listen with your skin, and inhabit this space.

🍃PT: O Tempo de um Haiku: Uma Viagem ao Ritmo e à Leveza da Poesia Japonesa / EN: The Time of a Haiku: A Journey to the Rhythm and Lightness of Japanese Poetry

It is with great joy that we continue our book presentation series. After diving into Poetic Animals, Poetic Anthology M.ª Leonor Costa, and Worldly Poetry, today our article is about the fourth book I published in the Poesias da Nonô universe: O Tempo de um Haiku (The Time of a Haiku), authored by me - the heteronum Mochi-Mochi.

Those who know me — family, friends, and readers — know that I have a deep passion for Japanese culture. I had the privilege of being in Japan in March 2025, during the magical Sakuras season (cherry blossoms), which was an immense inspiration!

I am also a great admirer of the master Matsuo Bashō and, to deepen my understanding of the art, I took a Haiku course at the Museum of the Orient. Naturally, I wrote (and still write!) numerous Haikus that Mochi-Mochi decided to gather in this singular book.

Três Haikus: Para Sentir a Leveza / Three Haikus: To Feel the Lightness

Chuva fina cai,

A flor de cerejeira abre,

Tempo de meditar.

O vento da manhã,

A folha seca no chão,

Dançando sozinha.

No velho lago,

Um sapo pula na água,

Som de paz na alma.

EN: Today, to honor the essence of this poetic form, I decided to invert the format of our article. Instead of public reading audios and videos, I want to leave you three Haikus to read at your own pace and appreciate their lightness.

Thin rain is falling,

The cherry blossom opens,

Time to meditate.

The morning gentle wind,

The dry leaf upon the ground,

Dancing all alone.

The ancient, still pond,

A frog jumps into the water,

Sound of peace in soul

The Time of a Haiku

EN: And with the lightness and meditative effect of reading the Haikus, Mochi-Mochi concludes the presentation of the fourth book published in this universe. May every breath of wind and every drop of rain find their place of peace within you.

See you next Friday, here on the blog!

I bid you farewell with the serenity of a simple verse,
