🌿 A Minha
Pátria é a Língua Portuguesa / My Homeland is the Portuguese Language
It is so good to have you here on this
beautiful day, so full of meaning for all of us. 🌿
Today, May 5th, we celebrate the Day
of the Portuguese Language and Culture — a date that touches me deeply.
Portuguese is a language that is much more than simple communication. It is
identity. It is home. It is root. It is freedom.
Since October 2nd, 2014, I have kept
the Poesias da Nonô blog active, pulsing, and alive. Not as an
obligation, but out of pure passion. With words born from deep within, with an
immense desire to share what I feel, what I see, and who I am, thus
contributing, day after day, to the diffusion of our language and culture. For
a long time I have written in a bilingual format (Portuguese and English) and I
continue to do so to embrace those who read me abroad, but my heart always
beats in Portuguese — with love and with truth.
🌹 A
Poesia como Forma de ser Portuguesa / Poetry as a Way of Being Portuguese
PT: A minha
A
EN: My way of experiencing the language has been,
above all, through poetry. Not mandatory or overly complex poetry, but the kind
that touches, translates emotions, and paints the world with simple yet
soul-filled words. Portuguese is the language I write in whether I am happy or
in tears. It is the invisible thread that connects me to my roots, to you who
read me, and to the world.
Portuguese culture is pure feeling. All of Portugal fits inside a poem, in the silences, in fado, in the sea breeze, in the strength of a woman, in the red carnation of freedom, and in the unique flavor of "saudade". This is the culture I carry in my words, and this is what Poesias da Nonô seeks to preserve: a clear mirror of the Portuguese soul — with beauty, depth, and emotion.
🌊 A
Língua que Atravessa Oceanos / The Language that Crosses Oceans
PT: Ao
compassivo.
EN: Throughout these more than 10 years of writing, I
have been amazed by the way Portuguese crosses oceans. It is a language spoken
across several continents, uniting diverse peoples, carrying stories and
feelings so distinct — and yet, so incredibly close.
It is beautiful to know that what I
write in Portuguese can touch those who also feel in Portuguese, even thousands
of miles away. And it is so beautiful to see how this language unites us — with
different accents, but with the exact same compassionate heart.
📝 O Poema / The Poem
Um
poema para a língua que me embala
Falo
português como quem respira,
com
sílabas que dançam ao ritmo do sentir.
Cada
palavra, uma casa,
cada
verso, um regresso.
A
minha língua tem mar, tem alma,
e um coração que bate em poesia.
Obrigada
por caminharem comigo.
Por
sentirem estas palavras.
EN: A Poem for the Language That Lulls Me
I speak Portuguese as naturally as I
breathe,
with syllables that dance to the
rhythm of my feelings.
Each word, a home,
each verse, a homecoming.
My language has the sea, it has a
soul,
and a heart that beats with poetry.
Thank you for walking with me.
For feeling these words.
