João Amaral - Born in November 1966. He made his debut in 1994, with Rui Carlos Cunha, by Edições Asa, in a comic book adaptation of A Voz dos Deuses. He collaborated in Selecção BD – 2ª Série, between 1999 and 2000, with O Que Ha de Novo no Império? and The End of the Line. He earned a mention at the Festival da Sobreda in 2002 with Game Over. In 2003, he participated in Vasco Granja-Uma Vida's album, Mil Imagens, with Missão Quase Impossível, written with screenwriter Jorge Magalhães. The same duo will play Ok Corral, signing with the pseudonyms Jhion and Zhion. Published History of Butters, Bernardo Santareno – Fragmentos of a Brief Life and History of Fornos de Algodres, by Âncora Editora. He collaborated with the newspaper Cruz Alta, with Isabel Afonso, in O Gui, a Nô ... E Os Outros, under the pseudonym of Joca. In 2012, through Edições Asa, he released the album Cinzas da Revolta with Miguel Peres. In 2014, he adapted José Saramago's homonymous novel, A Viagem do Elefante, for comics, by Porto Editora. In 2017, he published under the seal of the Out-of-Sales Editions Museu Nacional Grão Vasco 1916 – 2016-In Search of Lost Art. In 2019, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the release of A Voz dos Deuses, he published a new edition of this work by the publisher Arcadia. In 2020, he made the comic book adaptation of Rosa, Minha Irmã Rosa, by Alice Vieira. He also collaborated in advertising actions, with the magazine A Rua Sésamo, made greeting cards and illustrations for books, novels and school manuals. On his blog he has signed since 2010 (and for several years) as Joca, the strip Fred & Company. In 2013, he won at the Viseu International Comic Strip Festival, the Animarte trophy for his work as a whole.
