Dia Mundial da Língua Portuguesa foi oficialmente proclamado pela UNESCO em
2019, tornando-se a primeira língua com origem europeia a ter uma data
comemorativa reconhecida pela organização.
EN: On May 5th, we celebrate World Portuguese Language
Day. More than a communication code, Portuguese is a living entity that
breathes differently in every land it touches. From Portugal to Brazil,
including the PALOP (African Countries with Portuguese as an Official Language)
and East Timor, our language is an ocean of unique accents, rhythms, and
expressions that are worth exploring.
World Portuguese Language Day was
officially proclaimed by the UNESCO in 2019, becoming the first language of
European origin to have an international commemorative day recognized by the
organization.

Acordo Ortográfico de 1990 surgiu com o intuito de unificar a escrita e
facilitar a circulação de livros e cultura. No entanto, a língua é feita de
pessoas, não apenas de decretos. Enquanto a ortografia se aproxima, a alma de
cada variante — o "português de Luanda", o "falar
brasileiro" ou o "sotaque de Lisboa" — mantém-se vibrante e
distinta. Escrever é, para ti e para mim, respeitar essas nuances que nos
tornam uma comunidade viva de mais de 265 milhões de vozes espalhadas pelo mundo.
EN: The 1990 Orthographic Agreement was created to unify
writing and facilitate the flow of books and culture. However, language is made
of people, not just decrees. While spelling draws closer, the soul of each
variant — the "Portuguese from Luanda," the "Brazilian way of
speaking," or the "Lisbon accent" — remains vibrant and
distinct. For you and me, writing means respecting those nuances that make us a
vibrant community of more than 265 million voices spread across the globe.

entendermos através da nossa maravilhosa pluralidade.
EN: Being a librarian has taught me that a book written in Maputo and one published in Coimbra speak the same language, but tell stories with different colors. Portuguese is not the property of one country; it is the home of all who inhabit and transform it. The richness lies not in uniformity, but in the ability to understand each other through our wonderful plurality.
