Olá, queridos leitores!
Tirar a carta foi uma conquista bem
suada. Juntei dinheiro, fiz contas à vida e, mesmo sem qualquer apoio, segui em
frente.
Duas escolas de condução, dois testes de
código, três exames de condução… e uma imensa falta de confiança, agravada pela
ausência de incentivo paterno. Mas em 1998 consegui — saí com a carta na mão e
o coração cheio de nervos e orgulho.
Comprei o meu primeiro carro por 300
contos (aproximadamente 1,5 contos da moeda atual, ou seja, cerca de 150 euros): um Seat Ibiza Friends, que tinha direção assistida... a braços! Foi com
ele que vivi inúmeras aventuras. Entre oficinas no Alentejo, quatro viagens até
ao sul de Espanha (numa delas foi salvo por tubos de um Audi!), este carro foi
mais do que transporte — foi liberdade, emoção e histórias para contar.

Getting
my driver's license was a hard-fought achievement. I saved money, crunched the
numbers, and, even without any support, pushed forward.
Two
driving schools, two theory tests, three practical driving exams... and an
immense lack of confidence, worsened by the lack of paternal encouragement. But
in 1998 I made it — I walked out with my license in hand and a heart full of
nerves and pride.
I bought my first car for 300 contos contos (approximately 150 euros): a Seat Ibiza Friends, which had power steering... by sheer muscle power! It was with that car that I lived countless adventures. From mechanic workshops in Alentejo to four trips down to southern Spain (on one of them, it was saved by Audi pipes!), this car was more than transportation — it was freedom, emotion, and stories to tell.

Mais tarde, investi numa carrinha Fiat Pálio, bem mais cara — cinco mil e tal
euros. E com ela aprendi lições duras: desde ser enganada na compra, à saga
burocrática para regularizar o veículo, até um despiste numa curva entre Chaves
e Boticas que me fez perder a confiança ao volante.
Após ter estado doente, decidi vender o
carro… e até hoje não voltei a comprar nenhum.
Mas sabem que mais? Continuo a mover-me.
E este ano, aos 50, renovei a carta. Um dia destes ainda volto à estrada, com
umas lições de reciclagem e a coragem de quem já superou tanta coisa.
Porque conduzir é mais do que guiar um
carro — é tomar as rédeas da própria vida.

invested in a Fiat Pálio station wagon, much more expensive — over five
thousand euros. And with it, I learned hard lessons: from being scammed during
the purchase to the bureaucratic saga of legalizing the vehicle, and a skid on
a curve between Chaves and Boticas that made me lose my confidence behind the
wheel.
After
falling ill, I decided to sell the car... and to this day I haven't bought
another one.
But
do you know what? I keep moving. And this year, at 50, I renewed my license.
One of these days I'll get back on the road, with some refresher lessons and
the courage of someone who has overcome so much.
Because
driving is more than steering a car — it is taking the reins of one's own life.

é sair pela estrada,
com alma leve e ar decidido,
pôr música alta na madrugada
e ignorar o ruído perdido.
Engatar e soltar as mudanças,
acordar o motor ao partir,
com os vidros abertos nas danças
do vento a fazer-nos sorrir.
Seguir um caminho traçado,
confiante na voz do GPS,
mas prontos a mudar de lado
se a vida assim o quisesse.
Em cada curva, atenção redobrada,
em cada paragem, respiração.
Conduzir não é só a estrada
é ter nas mãos a direção.

ignoring the lost noise.
Shifting
gears and letting go,
waking
up the engine as we depart,
with
open windows in the dance
of
the wind making us smile.

a mapped-out path,
confident
in the voice of the GPS,
but
ready to change sides
if
life so desired.
In
every curve, redoubled attention,
in
every stop, a deep breath.

is not just the road
it
is holding the direction in your hands.
