EN: Poetry doesn't ask for permission, nor is it meant to soothe: it is a living territory of catharsis, voice, and attitude. I am M.ª Leonor Costa (Nonô) — writer, performer, and creator of Poesias da Nonô. I give body, sound, and presence to spoken word in Portuguese and English, inhabited by heteronyms navigating the visceral, the sacred, and the everyday. Step inside. Read with your body, listen with your skin, and inhabit this space.

Catarse das Palavras: "Ser Mãe" / Catharsis of Words: "Being a Mother"

Being a Mother

Gustav klimt, “A Maternidade” / “Motherhood”

Puzzle de 1000 peças reunidas por mim

Puzzle 1000 pieces put together by me

Catharsis of Words

EN: Being a Mother

A full-time job,

with no vacation or holidays.

For her, her children always come first,

even when they are naughty.

Some women long to be mothers,

but they can't get pregnant.

Others have children easily,

and end up killing them.

A mother should never be prepared

to lose a child,

whether throughout their life

or at birth.

Being a mother is a desire,

a deep ambition.

A biological necessity

that is beyond reason.
