EN: Poetry doesn't ask for permission, nor is it meant to soothe: it is a living territory of catharsis, voice, and attitude. I am M.ª Leonor Costa (Nonô) — writer, performer, and creator of Poesias da Nonô. I give body, sound, and presence to spoken word in Portuguese and English, inhabited by heteronyms navigating the visceral, the sacred, and the everyday. Step inside. Read with your body, listen with your skin, and inhabit this space.

Poesias Mundanas: "O que o futuro me reserva?" / Worldly Poetry: "What does the future hold for me?"

PT: O que o futuro me reserva?

Não sou nenhuma adivinha

Não nasci com bola de cristal

Posso vir a ter um futuro longínquo

Mas não sei se chego ao Natal.

Vivo o momento presente

Desconheço o que o futuro me espera.

A vida muda tão depressa

E tão pouco isso me preocupa

Worldly Poetry

EN: What does the future hold for me?

I am no fortune-teller,

I was not born with a crystal ball

I may have a distant future

But I don't know if I'll make it to Christmas.

I live the present moment

I don't know what the future holds.

Life changes so fast

What was, is gone.

I know that I live day by day

With the greatest intensity.

I foresee that one day I will die

This is a stark reality.

Life is not always what you want it to be

And 180.º degrees changes can happen,

At any moment everything changes

New balances must be re-established.

I don't know what the future holds

And neither does it concern me

It’s with living the present moment

That my mind is occupied.
